The DOT Certified SAP as a professional counselor for DOT. This certification allows these counselors to offer addiction counseling services to DOT clients, who have the right to transportation under the Federal Transit Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

This is the first time DOT has formally recognized addiction counseling as a profession in the transit industry, which will allow more access to addiction counseling services and improve the quality of life for those affected by substance abuse. This also helps the DOT meet its obligation under the ADA, which requires transit agencies to provide reasonable accommodations for passengers with disabilities (DOT Qualified SAP).
